Core Supports

NDIS Core Budgets:

These are supports for funding everyday activities. There are four budgets in this category:

  • Assistance with Daily Life
  • Assistance with Social and Community Participation
  • Consumables
  • Transport.

These too can sometimes be confusing but they are very flexible funds and can be used in a variety of ways as long as they are used in a manner that is directly reflective of your disability.

Your NDIS Plan.

CORE supports categories:

  • Assistance with daily life: in some cases, living with a disability makes daily household tasks very difficult or even impossible to do alone. Help with your daily cleaning, yard maintenance, cooking or personal care could be included in your Core supports budget
  • Consumables: these are everyday items that you rely on because of your disability and may give you more confidence or help you to achieve a level of independence.
If you require items such as continence aid, low cost assistive technology products or equipment to improve your everyday independence, there’s a good chance that they’ll be covered under your consumables budget, but
should be listed in documentation by OT or therapist stating that these are reasonable and necessary.
  • Assistance with Social and Community participation: There are so many benefits associated with getting involved in your community. Having improved relationships, a better social life and a feeling of belonging in your community can have a huge impact on both your physical and mental health.
The core supports budget can help you with social and community participation through assistance with getting to or attending your social or community activities like classes, camps or sports. This can include a support worker to help you participate in these types of activities or help you to connect and socialise with others.
  • Transport: if you are unable to use public transport because of your disability and you require help to travel to work, activities or other places that will help you achieve your goals then you could receive funding for transport in your core supports budget.

How can I make the most of my Core supports funding?

If your goal is to learn a new skill, then it could be covered under your social and community participation budge.
If you want to learn how to be more independent in your daily life and make friends, then under the assistance with daily life category, you might receive funding to help you get ready for your day and cook meals.
The need for all your funding is assessed on a case by case basis and determined to be reasonable and necessary so make sure you’ve had a good think about your goals and how they relate to each category before your NDIS plan meeting
